You think of your child as the little 3 year old with the head full of curls toddling around the house in their footie pajamas. But in the last week they came home and announced “I’m a SENIOR now!!”. How in the world did that happen? Honestly it feels like it happened overnight. I know this because the last of my 4 daughters said these exact words to me last week and my heart landed in my stomach with a resounding thud.
With the impending senior year comes a million firsts and lasts. First application to college, college visits, last dances and football games. On top of that is a Senior checklist that includes Senior Pictures. I am getting asked on a daily basis now “When should I get my child’s pictures taken?” So let’s talk about that!
There are a number of factors that go into the answer of when you should have your images taken. Think about the following:
*Does your senior play a fall or winter sport? Schedule your session in the summer
*Is your senior involved in creative arts (plays, choir, etc) Schedule your session in the summer
*Consider the tones of your session. Are you hoping for sundresses and sandals or sweaters and scarves? This will determine timing of Summer or Fall.
*Depending on your school, the deadline for the yearbook will become a factor. Many schools will need your yearbook image by November. Also remember that once daylight savings hits the days will shorten and it will be dark by 4:30pm. This will significantly limit scheduling for senior pictures.
Summer Senior sessions will have a particular look to them, they are bright and sunny. They are easier to schedule because weather is less of an issue and the days are longer with fewer scheduling conflicts.
